Excimer laser technology is one of the most precise methods for permanently correcting vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Through targeted reshaping of the cornea, the refractive power of the eye is adjusted so that glasses or contact lenses are no longer necessary.

How does the treatment work

• Treatment duration: 10–15 minutes per eye
• Painless: Local anesthesia, typically without significant discomfort
• Healing process: Return to daily life usually after 1–3 days
• Possible reactions: Temporary burning, stinging, or sensitivity to light – depending on the method

The method chosen determines how quickly the healing process progresses. With the PRK ("No-Touch") technique, for example, recovery takes a little longer but is particularly gentle – especially suitable for individuals with thin corneas.

What methods are available?

PRK (No-Touch Laser):

A proven procedure without a corneal incision. The top layer of the cornea is removed, then the laser treatment is performed directly on the corneal surface. Particularly suitable for thin corneas.

ReLEx SMILE:

Minimally invasive and gentle on the tissue. A small tissue body (lenticule) inside the cornea is removed with the laser – without opening the corneal surface.

iLASIK (customized with femtosecond laser):

A state-of-the-art combination of two laser systems. A wafer-thin flap is precisely created, followed by fine correction with the excimer laser – customized to your personal vision profile.

Which method is right for me?

There is no "single best laser method" – only the best one for your eyes. Therefore, an individual examination by an experienced specialist is crucial.

A responsible eye clinic will never recommend the same technique for everyone, but will instead consider your needs, corneal thickness, and prescription.
