ICL / ARTISAN - PHAKIC IOL

Clear vision with severe refractive error
When is a phakic IOL an option?
Phakic intraocular lenses are a proven solution for people under 40,
- when the refractive error is very severe,
 - or when the cornea is too thin for excimer laser treatment.

In such cases, the phakic IOL effectively replaces glasses or contact lenses – without altering the natural lens.
How does the procedure work?
A wafer-thin special lens is gently inserted in front of the natural lens.
The surgery takes about 15 minutes per eye, is usually performed under brief general anesthesia, and is virtually painless. Return to daily life is possible after a few days.
Recovery and Aftercare
- Day 1: Surgery on the first eye
 - Day 2: Surgery on the second eye
 - Day 3: Follow-up examination

In individual cases, increased intraocular pressure may occur temporarily – this can be regulated with medication. The healing process is generally uncomplicated.
Custom-Fitted Lenses
Phakic lenses are precisely tailored to your eye and ordered after the initial examination. Delivery time is 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the model.
The lens remains in the eye permanently – should a cataract develop later, the phakic IOL is removed and replaced during cataract surgery.
